Is it actually possible to teach citizenship, or at least its foundations? Or is it the example of persons of full moral integrity jointly defending their personal freedom representatively for all others that makes the difference?
These are the main questions of our first OpenForum, which will take place in Vilnius on Nov 2 – 4. We realise it in cooperation with the European Humanities University, a “University in Exile” founded in Minsk/Belarus in 1992, which was closed down by the authorities in Minsk and is currently harboured on EU grounds in Vilnius/Lithuania.
This forum is the first one of a series of 3 fora on Citizenship which are supported by the "Europe for Citizens" Programme of the European Union.
If you are considered a professionally and personally interesting individual by your colleagues and friends, you belong to the people we would like to talk to. We welcome the participation of academic and professional experts in the respective fields, though this alone will not suffice. We actively seek to recruit as much representatives from outside the hegemonic “European sciences” (European Studies, Law, Political Science, Sociology) as possible. Involving people with a variety of personal backgrounds (ranging from prior political activities and civil society engagement to experience with transnational business) will ensure a lively debate with substantial results.
Deadline for applications is September 15.
