Details about the World Camp 2007

At the Orbis Institute we believe the solution to realizing global harmony in the 21st century is to build relationships around the world.
By interweaving our lives, ideas, and interests as a global community we become more tolerant and more understanding.
World Camp 2007
The Camp focuses on leadership principles that prepare our young leaders for the challenges that lay ahead in an ever-converging world. We offer a cross cultural leadership experience. Students will have the opportunity to examine different leadership styles, develop long term relationships with international students and use what they have discovered to initiate change in their own communities. World Camp will be comprised of 18-24 international students. This year World Camp is also under the umbrella of Outward Bound Slovakia.
Price: 650 €
The price includes: program, trainers, local transport, entrance tickets, food and accommodation. It does not include: airfare (or other transportation to and from World camp), insurance.
Scholarship: The Orbis Institute will offer limited scholarships for those who are not able to pay the whole fee.
When 29th June – 15th July 2007
Where is World Camp During this course participants will visit
Slovakia, Poland and Austria. While visiting these diverse locations, students will meet with civic and educational leaders.
What can you expect This leadership experience is full of various activities – an outdoor expedition,
from World camp? hiking, a visit to the WWII Concentration Camp at
Auschwitz, a high and low ropes course, and a community project.
Requirements – age 15-18
– fluent English (to be checked by phone)

– good physical and mental condition
– willing to sleep outdoors
– active in your community
– open-minded and willing to take on challenges (physical, mental,
cultural)
– interest in world affairs
Students will:
– Be instructed by experts in various disciplines including:
international affairs, leadership, and cross-cultural awareness.
– Study leadership principles from a myriad of cultures and historical contexts.
– Engage in an extensive dialogue with fellow students and counselors regarding the course content.
– Participate in experiential team building exercises at the Mountain Camp. These will include a ropes course, camping skills, problem-solving games, and a peak ascent. (The activities will not be strenuous.)
– Develop and commit to a clear plan of action that integrates the learned principles of global leadership with their individual lives.
